You've got to be kidding me

I'm watching The Today Show.

They just did a 5 minute segment on a mother who decided to give up her adopted son after 18 months of caring for him.

She said they "weren't bonding right."

She made the concept of adoption look bad. She made it look like it's not worth it to put yourself out there for the sake of a child.

Then The Today Show went to a commercial break and came back with a 10 minute segment about homeless dogs.

They gave the dogs makeovers.

They told the dogs' sad stories of abandonment.

They encouraged us viewers to adopt the dogs.

DOGS people. DOGS.

Really? Is this what we care most about in this country?

Nevermind that there are thousands of children in our country who need families. Forget about the thousands of children who could share their own devastating stories of abandonment and hunger and loneliness.

No, pay no attention to them.

But please, please, please make sure that all DOGS have good homes.

Good job, Today Show.

Thank you for dedicating 5 minutes to make sure that we all know that the adoption of HUMAN BEINGS will probably have a negative outcome.

And thank you, thank you for dedicating 10 minutes of your show to open my eyes to the dire need of dogs.

DOGS?

Seriously.

Every living creature deserves a good home, just because there was ONE mother who couldn't put aside her selfish ways to love that child doesn't mean that it should have made a flipping news story and bring about a negative view on the whole adoption process. This irritates me as lots of things do lately. Media is stupid! I love dogs too, but I think a child is more important then a dog.

We saw a lot of this when the recession was at its highest peak here-it was all about saving the animals from shelters and donating $ and food blah blah I have a dog and I love her but like you said where was the focus on the HUMANS esp the KIDS who are victims of their circumstances?

I just saw that story on my homepage and read it before I saw your post here. Not having seen the show I only have the perspective of the writer, but from what they wrote it seems to me she tried a lot to bond with that child and provide him the best home she could. It seems that when it wasn't working for them both, she took the responsibility to care for him until a better fit could be found.

My aunt and uncle who are missionaries in Africa take in a lot of orphans and care for them as if they were their own until a better and permanent fit can be found. I guess where they differ from this lady is that they never actually took the step to adopt the kids, but I kinda view their situations as they same...they provide the best care they can for that child until a better fit can be found. It's still better than where the child was originally...lying in an orphanage or on the side of the road as was the case of the little boy in this story.

Where I do totally agree with you is how much more our society focuses on the inhuman treatment of animals and their need to be adopted as opposed to children.

Sadly, that sounds about right for the society we live in. It's all about "save the whales", "adopt a pet", "don't wear fur". But issues like "abortion"- Well that should be a right and "adoption"- why inconvenience yourself!!! There is such little vaule put on human life anymore!

When we read in the Bible about Adoption it refers to a term that at that time was not able to be undone. You could disown your own children, remove their inheritance ect. But when you adopted a child it was a permanent forever deal. When the bible tell us that we are adopted into His family.... its just like that. forever. Becky I know your heart is aching as is mine. There are millions of children who simply do not get to rest in their mamas arms and know unconditional love. Yours will. We get to watch you act out a Biblical adoption. Unfortunately out society applauds itself on filling our own needs. "I need a girl" "I need a child who like sports" "I want a child with a high Iq" Our consumerism has bled into our souls and now we trade friends, family and even children for whats more comfortable. Love is not the feeling of being comfortable, but the act of giving everything you have to serve another. You are such a witness to the Goodness that is Grace. It may not be a five minute news story to counteract the nonsence on tv, but it will be a life long witness to the world that Jesus is King and we are his people. FOREVER.

and another thought.... what if Jesus decided to end our relationship with him just because we wern't "bonding" according to His desire.... I don't think one of us would be left...
