Call Webster

Yesterday I was tutoring one of my sophomore students and we were working on Algebra.

I asked him, "What does it mean when a number and a variable are right next to each other, as in '5n'?"

He replied, "Oh, that means that the '5' and the 'n' are timezin'."

Well said.

Colorful Colorado

Yesterday, on our way home from the mountains, I used my sunglasses and our tinted car window as filters for my camera. It was a fun experiment on our beautiful drive. I love the way the colors turned out!

First Attempt at Powder

Riding powder is harder than it looks.
Mark said, "Just point it straight and shoot the trees."
Right. Got it. No problem.
As soon as I got going, I could see there was going to be a problem.
Don't worry, I was okay.

Happy Anniversary to Us

This weekend, Mark and I celebrated our 6th anniversary with a weekend in the mountains.

I can honestly say that this marriage has been a huge blessing in my life. Love you, Marky! Here's to the next 66 years!

And finally, a few random favorites

Team Building

I realize that this looks a little inappropriate -- but how else were they supposed to get the whole class across the hot lava with only ONE pair of magic slippers? You got any better ideas?

First Adventure In Snowshoeing

Let it be Known that I have Mad Tube-Jumping Skills (And Emily Does Not)

An evening of nighttime tubing and sledding.
So COLD. So FUN. So WORTH IT.

I landed this tube-launch with quite an impressive finish. Really it was.
However, Emily landed her launch with her face...
...resulting in a bit of road rash, a few tears, and a good story to tell the kids one day.

Best 3 Days Ever

What a wonderful trip.
Loved it. Loved every minute.
My house seems deafeningly still right now.

I had a blast.
Took over 500 pictures.
I'll share as I get them sorted.

Reasons why I am excited for Spring Break

#1) ECA Senior Trip to Winter Park
#2) Refer to #1

In just 3 days, mark and I will be joining my little sister and her senior class for three days of movie-watching-sleigh-riding-broom-balling-hill-tubing-craft-making-archery-shooting fun at the YMCA camp in Winter Park.

It's a little sad, but I have to admit that I have been looking forward to this for YEARS.

thanks alot

Last week I was running a little late one morning, so I rushed out the door to meet with my early student without putting any makeup on.

I didn't think it would be a big deal. He's in 7th grade. He's a boy. Why would he notice?

However, about an hour into our tutoring session, he looked at me and said, "You look like you got punched right underneath your eyes."

Thank you so much, kid, for pointing out those dark circles. It has been noted that I can no longer leave my house without the proper amount of concealer.

how touching

Nothing says "I care" like graffiti-ing your loved one's car with a brutally misspelled birthday message.

Misunderstood

At our volleyball tournament on Sunday, we were winning one of our games by quite alot. During a time out, I told the girls to challenge themselves to try some of our more difficult plays. I'm sure I said something like, "We can afford to take a couple of risks here. Try some quick sets and start serving to difficult spots."

On the very next play, my setter haphazardly dumped the ball over the net without attempting to set to one of her teammates for the kill. When I reminded her that we did not want to take the easy-way-out on this one, she said, "Okay, but if this was an important game, would that have been a good choice."

I believe she missed the point.
