We are THANKFUL
In case you haven't heard, there are multiple wildfires roaring through the state of Colorado right now.
They've destroyed hundreds of home and thousands upon thousands of acres.
These fire are bad. Really bad.
And right now, in my city alone, there are two thousand firefighters making sure the fires are contained and eventually stopped.
Last night, my mom, sister, and I joined a couple hundred other people on 31st street to let these men and women know that we.are.THANKFUL.
The residents in the area have been lining up every morning and evening from about 7:00 to 9:00 to show their appreciation to the firefighters as they change shifts.
We cheered busses full of soot-covered firefighters as they drove east; returning to base camp after what I'm sure was a long shift. And we cheered other fully loaded trucks and busses heading west; carrying firefighters who were just beginning their day's work.
We high-fived soot covered hands and saw bright smiles - appearing even brighter against black dirty skin - light up tired faces.
From what I hear, the cheering continues for about two hours every morning and evening and the crowds are growing a little bit larger every day. I pray that these hardworking firefighters will be able to go home soon. But, until then, I hope they know just how much they are appreciated by this community.
